Common Hawker male attacking female

Came across a female Common Hawker ovipositing this morning and was surprised to see a male repeatedly attacking her. I've not noted this previously and wonder whether it's the male impatient to find a partner?

Common Hawker again in Wragg's Quarry

I popped in to Wragg's Quarry on Thursday evening to check on the water level in the pond, it's now over flowed the normal pond area. The male Common Hawker was still present and I couldn't resist taking a few more photos in different lighting conditions. I have seen a female but she doesn't stay around the pond much.

Common Hawker

This male Common Hawker catches the sunlight as it crosses the black waters of the pool in Wragg's Quarry. Fortunately the water level is now largely replenished following the heavy rain earlier in the week.

Common Hawker - male

There were some decent sunny spells this morning and not many birds around so I had another go at dragonfly flight shots at Stonedge.
It takes a lot of patience, the dragonfly seems to know how long it takes to get the camera on it and focus since generally they move just before you are ready to take the shot. This Common Hawker was the best of many attempts. There were perhaps a dozen Common Hawkers and half that of Brown Hawkers.

Common Hawker - female

This female Common Hawker dragonfly was busy egg laying on a small moorland pool this morning and was quite oblivious to my presence.
