Grey Dagger - caterpillar Beeley Moor

Superb photo of the Grey Dagger caterpillar taken by Ken on the moorland edge yesterday. A widespread and fairly common moth the caterpillar feeds on a range of trees and shrubs including sallow, hawthorn, rowan and elm.

T he adult moth which flies May to August has been in very short supply this year, but this is a nice example of the striking caterpillar taken on Flash Lane.

Grey/Dark Dagger

Wet overnight but still a few moths in the trap this morning with Grey/Dark Dagger, Muslin Footman 2, and Orthopygia glaucinalis all new for the year. Another Short-cloaked Moth escaped un-photographed, Small Dusty Wave and Wormwood Pug were the best of the rest.
