Cloaked Carpet Matlock 5th August

Brian Statham caught this Cloaked Carpet in Matlock on Friday night, he also caught one on the 3rd. First recorded in Derbyshire in 2007 when a single was taken at Frogatt, I caught 3 at home the following year and it has been recorded annually in the area since. Designated Nationally Scarce B it has clearly expanded in to this area presumably from the nearest population on the Welsh border.

The Ling Pug

Caught half a dozen Pugs on Beeley Moor on Friday night, all were the Ling Pug and three individuals are shown here, this moth is generally considered to be a moorland form of the Wormwood Pug, it is considerably smaller and greyer than typical examples of that species.

Waved Black

Simon Roddis has done it again, his third Waved Black in 9 years on 27th July, the others were on 2003 and 2009. as far as I know these are possibly the only Derbyshire records although there appear to be one or two known sites in neighbouring Nottinghamshire.
I'm only 1/2 a mile away as the Waved Black flies so it can only be a matter of time.

The Chevron

After 10 days away in France I was expecting to come back to a rush of new moths but despite decent weather last night I added a disappointing three new for the year; The Chevron, Rosy Rustic and Lesser Broad-bordered Yellow Underwing.
