The owls and the Peregrine

I was stood with Ken Smith on Beeley Moor last night watching a Long-eared Owl (first photos below) when we heard a commotion from the Curlews and a juvenile Peregrine flew over. It disappeared chased by the Curlews only to reappear a few minutes later high over head chased by a Short-eared Owl. All the photos are Ken's of course.

Bonsall Moor - Pyramidal Orchid

Headed off early to Bonsall Moor hoping for some sunshine, but it clouded over within half an hour of arriving. Still added the Thyme loving plume moth Merrifieldia leucodactyla and another Pyralid Udea leutealis also some very nice Pyramidal Orchids flowering now.

Grasshopper Warbler - Flash Lane

A Grasshopper Warbler showed well this morning despite the strong wind. It's been a good year for them this year with at least 6 reeling males.

Sand Leek

Photographed at what appears to be the only known site in Derbyshire just above Rowsley on the edge of Beeley Moor.

Long-eared Owl - Beeley Moor

Taken at dusk this evening, Long-eared Owls tend to fly later in the evening than Short-eared and are thus harder to photograph.
