It's good to be able to report on a species which is on the increase in the County. Although the number of breeding pairs has more than doubled in the past two decades to an estimated 33 pairs in 2011 the majority are in the south of the County and it is still a rare breeding bird in the Peak District. Locally they are most likely to be seen in the late summer feeding on Northern Eggar moths on Beeley Moor. They are surprisingly elusive during the breeding season so I was pleased to find this bird perched up this morning.
