More Water Vole

It's been overcast and grey most of the day so I went to Cromford Canal this afternoon for the Water Vole, despite the number of people walking along the canal, or perhaps as a result of,  they provide excellent views. When I first arrived a vole was gathering grass on the banking before diving in to the canal, I presume this material is used to line the nest.
I particularly like the reflection on the photo below these.

  1. Good to know that there are still some about. I haven't seen any for a couple of years.

  2. Cromford canal is a very important site for the Water Vole I think the UK population has declined by more than 80% in the last couple of decades, largely due to the spread of the MInk so we are lucky to have such a good population in central Derbyshire. I they give such good views, I occasionally see them on the rivers and even on the moor but generally getting no more than a glimpse.
